What kind of dogs do you have? I have a jack Russell named Barnie. He has not really been a barn dog for a few years (since I no longer have my own barn) and when he was living at the barn he got pretty spazzy around the horses so we kept him on a lease.

Years ago I had a retriever who was a saint around the barn, and I had a beagle who thought it was his job to protect the horses from killer rabbits.

Tell me your dog and horse stories. I wrote a short article on D&H

We have had Australian Shepherds for many years but I lost my two girls this year. One to lymphoma and the other had just had a wonderful and long life and had a third stroke leaving her paralyzed. It was a very hard winter for us but our Vizsla (Justifyable Trouble) does his best to make life fun and interesting here. We also are dog sitting my mothers dog who we think is a German Shepherd/Akita cross.
We have had a long line of Aussies and Vizslas over the years and would recommend both breeds as loveable and highly intelligent dogs. As they become members of our family, it is hard to get over their loss but they bring us so much joy that I can't imagine not having another dog to love soon.

That is really tough, losing both in so short a time. My Barnie is 17. He can't jump up onto my bed anymore without some help. He was pretty gimpy in the winter with artheritis, but seems to feel fine now it is warm. He is so much company. I wil lsurely miss him when his time comes.

my mom's 12 year old german shepard/mix just recently passed away, she was always around horses since we had her..and she used to love going on trail rides with us...
another dog was my favorite scorpian who was a collie/doberman and he would lay on the driveway when we went riding and wait for us to return..sadly he was hit on the road on night when is was snowing really hard..miss him a lot..but he was a good dog..

Our home is livened by the lives of three Harlequin Great Danes and a lil rescued mini-mutt.

For Saber (our mini) the dogs are his herd.
I would have to say I think his favorite among the dogs is Rooster
as the pair of them like to just be with each other.. whether it be to rest or to play.

Our present chief canine is a German Wirehair Pointer called Max. He is 15 years old and still in charge of the horses ! They respect his space (mostly !) He is a larger than life character whose charisma attracts everyone, where-ever we go, .. complete strangers have to come over for a chat ! :D

He has embarrassing habits though.... and nearly got hubby arrested after 3 elderly ladies doing some window shopping had their bottoms felt by Max's nose.... They did not think to look down for a dog... They just let handbags swing on poor hubby ! lol

When our terrier X ?? was 12 years old, we thought we would have a puppy before she became to old to cope. Max was 8 years old when she died aged 20 years and 3 months. She was a fiesty mad terrier who was knocked unconcious by a sheep once for coming too close to the lamb. She too was a real character. We think Max gave her a new lease of life :)

Our stable dogs from the past have mostly been Jack Russell Terriers, though there have been 2 Great Danes, Labradors and Spaniels .. oh, and a Beagle X Labrador. The postman used to be too afraid to walk down our drive... He would tie the letters to a gate at the end....so we put a box there :)

I currently have 4 dogs, a 13 year old lab mix stray named Rose that loves my husband, an 8 year old JRT (from my first litter!) named Max, a 5 year old JRT female named Skittle Bug and my youngest male JRT Junior who is about to turn 3. Junior is the only puppy from Skittle Bug that we kept. We also had another JRT that I've given to my mother who is the mother of Max and she is 11 and named Lola. I love them all so much but Max and Junior don't get a long much any more (neither do Skittles and Lola!) and have to kept apart when we are not around to supervise. We show, race and compete in Go-To-Ground with Skittles and Junior and now have 14 rats to help with training for GTG!! I never thought I'd have small animals like rats but they are a lot more fun than I thought they would be.

I have a blue heeler named Buddy. He was thrown out of a moving truck at my cousin's house. He still hasn't decided if he likes horses or if he wants to herd them. He's shy and doesn't really like other dogs or most people. His best friends are me, my best friend, my pygmy goat Shadowprancer, and my cousin's Beagle, Nacho. We know he's a young dog and I've had him almost 2 years, so he's probably in the prime of his life.

That is a handsome dog! Is anyone watching that TV show, America's Top Dog (I think that is the title) if comes on CBS, a reality show with dogs andtheir owners. Barnie and I love it! Well, Barnie sleeps through it to tell the truth.
