I am looking to get a mini. I have had big horses before. Questions?...
1. do I need to have 2 ninis. I want to designate my time to training one. If it does need wo ocompany, could I get an alpaka to protect and keep it company?
2. How much padockor out door space does 1 mini need? 1/2 an acer or is 900 square feet big enough, or 100 feet long and wide. I would like to add two or three of these eventually to rotate my mini.
4. What type and size of fence should I use?
3. What is the ideal barn size and stalls. I was thinking 10x10. only will be let in at night.
Are there any great web sites for this, or can any of you help? Thanks
Many of the questions I do not know the answers to but this one I can give you my opinion on. I think you can have just one mini but that, as all equines are concerned, I think all of them are happier with a friend. I was recently able to put one of my Arabian mares in with my miniature and they are now the best of friends. Other people have not been so lucky when putting a large horse in with a mini. I can't wait to share your miniature adventure and WELCOME to the mini lovers!!!!!
Miniature Horses are a herd animal like any other horse and they do need a herd member, even if it is only one friend. Although some may try a subsitute, minis do best usually with another of their own species. As far as space goes, 1/2 acre could support a mini if rotated properly. Without any doubt, field fencing is my choice. It not only will keep your mini in, but will keep predators out. A 10 X 10 stall is a very good size also, but be sure the walls and door are low enough so your mini can see out easily without straining. Feel free to email me if I can be of service.
Watched a beautiful dance recital Saturday and helped represent our equestrian therapy center QUEST. The dance company chose us as the non profit organization to donate the proceeds from thier holiday recital. What a special gift to many area child…
Thanks Jessie and Becky!! I'm hoping that my life will get back to normal very soon, soo I can play with him more, without hurting soo bad! There's nothing I want more than to jump in that saddle!!
What a fun time that was. Boy that little Major is quite the jumper! Both of the boys had a fun time and were quite excited about getting the tree. LOL
This was so cute of your new boy Butterscotch and his barn buddies. Can't wait to see him getting trained for driving. Did you forget about making that video on harnessing a mini to the cart? I would love to see you make one. :)
Thanks Jesse, it was a fun day even when I slipped and fell in the mud..LOL
Major was feeling really spunky. He has not had all the experiences Manny has had.
