Early this morning I signed in to another forum where I was hall monitor (moderator) for the day. The first thing catching my eye was a post that a company that makes WNV vaccine had recalled their product.
Here are some of the comments, notices, links, and statements I collected:
A PDF file from the company available at their website;
April 28, 2010, - "URGENT:RECALL NOTICE" PreveNile West Nile Virus
"This is to inform you that Intervet Inc. is conducting a voluntary
recall of all serials, and all dose presentations of PreveNile........
.....because Intervet has identified an increased incidence of adverse
events...............notified USDA, Center for Veterinary Biologics......"
......Serials are then listed. And then:
"Please check your inventory immediately to identify whether or not you
have any PreveNile vaccine. If you have any PreveNile.... arrange the
return and credit for returned product...."
"For more information....866-349-3497"
will provide the file with the notice they gave.
There is conflicting information about the seriousness of the reactions, yet there are claims there have been deaths. As yet I have no information on how many and where they might have occurred, either the reactions (they appear anaphylactic as in an alergine reaction) or the deaths.
Some are reporting their veterinarians were unaware of the recall. This is the WNV vaccination season and if you have one planned you may want to tell your veterinarian about this recall and provide the information above from the website ... even downloading the PDF file and printing it out to give your vet.
