Although I also am not breeding right now, I've had to joy of raising 10 babies to adulthood and almost all of them have gone on to better homes. I've lost track of a couple and only recently caught up with some others but I wouldn't trade it in for anything. I love being a mother, it's a shame I won't get to raise any children (2 legged kind!).

I am not a backyard breeder anymore but may be again and have been in the past. As the breeding I was involved in was of Arabians specifically for endurance/competitive riding, I looked for conformation and disposition as highest importance. I wanted to breed for heart as ponygal says but I found it somehow not possible. It seemed to be an indefinable quality. I believe your mares are to be of the highest regard even over the stallions attributes. So much of the foal is dependent upon his mother from conception to weaning.

I am not a breeder so I can not comment on that. What I would look for is personality and heart above all else I think.

Some leaves are left. A lot more have fallen this week alone. We took this about two and a half weeks ago, on October 21st and as you can see they were already pretty fuzzy. Prophy and Bentley are in their full winter coats now and Butterscotch is...

Hehe, you still have leaves on your trees. How wooly will they get? Isn't it funny how quickly a horse settles in? It would take us humans a long time to adjust. What kind of training are you doing with Butterscotch?
