During my time with the rescue group QUEST I have been asked what is the purpose of my "whip". I have answered with Pat's description of the Carrot stick and "stick people" and Carrot people. I have used the analogy of the mare using her tail to brush flies from her baby or how horses stand nose to tail and keep flies away. I show them how I use it to keep a safe distance while check out a new horses tendency to kick or strike. I use it for an extension of my arm to direct them and to support my suggestion to move their feet, shoulder, hip etc. Does anyone have any good ideas about explaining the use of the carrot stick? To those who have not seen one it looks like a whip.

This is a funny "obstacle" but it makes a cheap version of the "carwash" in the Parelli games. I like to play the Squeeze game with laundry hanging on the line. The towels and jeans etc flapping in the wind make a great free obstacle. Just be sure you did a good job grooming so you won't have to wash them over again! LOL

Seeing Pat & Linda for the first time in St. Louis!! I had read Pat's book Natural Horsemanship, but that didn't prepare me for what I saw. Words can't describe the feeling! Finally something I'd searched for since childhood was happening in front of my eyes. I don't know how many times in that 2 days I was choking back tears, it was very emotional for me. Finally someone was able to put into words and actions what it was to be a true horseman. I was totally inspired and it made sense!

Wow Peg! What a great moment you shared with us. My favorite part of Parelli is how it allows us to become a true friend and partner of our horse. We begin to really see the relationship as primary to our own agendas. The growth of that friendship can be so amazing. The depth of trust you develop with them can bring me to tears. Thanks so much for sharing that!

Some leaves are left. A lot more have fallen this week alone. We took this about two and a half weeks ago, on October 21st and as you can see they were already pretty fuzzy. Prophy and Bentley are in their full winter coats now and Butterscotch is...

Hehe, you still have leaves on your trees. How wooly will they get? Isn't it funny how quickly a horse settles in? It would take us humans a long time to adjust. What kind of training are you doing with Butterscotch?
