What state or country are you from?
About Me:
Lifelong love of horses. For the first time in 20 years I'm down to one horse, a 6 y/o Paint gelding. I've lost 3 of my 4 horses over the last 3 years, my wonderful Arab gelding Santa, my sweet old quarter horse Hawk, and my precious little half Arab filly Tashaw. Some sad times for sure. Moved from the boarding stable and back to semi-civilization in a small town. Into Parell Natural Horsemanship and non-competitive dressage. Board my horse at a local stable now, which feels a little strange after having my horses with me for so long! But now looking forward to being able to focus my attention on just one horse!
How did you find us?
My friend Becky!
Favorite movies?
A Star is Born, Funny Girl, Prince of Tides, Dances with Wolves, Open Range, Caddyshack, Thelma & Louise, Nine to Five, Steel Magnolias, Beaches, Sound of Music, all the old Doris Day movies, Seabiscuit, Pharlap, Black Beauty (OK almost any horse movie!!)
Favorite books?
Angel Horses, DaVinci Code, anything by Dr. Wayne Dyer, all of Shirley Maclaine's books, numerous biographies, The Road Less Traveled - M. Scott Peck, Your Best Life Now - Joel Osteen, The Power of Positive Thinking - Norman Vincent Peale
Favorite Music?
Streisand, Cher, Bette Midler, Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, The Eagles, Creed, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Pops Orchestra, and anything my son writes & plays!

Bittersweet Memories

(My apologies for the length of this piece. It’s really not a blog but a true short story. It’s a story I particularly wanted to share with the Quest Friends on this site.)

17 years ago while working on at a job in Missouri, I met a man who boarded horses at a local stable. I had heard of the place and knew their riding instructor had moved away. I had thought about approaching them about the position, but I didn’t know the people and was a little reluctant. After a lifetime with… Continue

Best Friends, Soulmates, and the Circle of Life

It’s said that when God closes a door another opens. Just 3 months ago I took on the commitment of a fourth horse. I wasn’t sure why I agreed to it so easily. My head told me I couldn’t afford to care for one more. But, I’ve learned through the years to trust my instincts. I knew my kind and steady Hawk, a 26 year old quarter horse, wouldn’t be with me much longer and finding another with his sweet disposition and gentle nature wouldn’t be easy,… Continue

Winter Ice in Illinois!

Lilly skating on the icy driveway! She's the only one able to get up the driveway right now. I don't dare try to drive down it, I know I won't be able to get back up the the hill! Good thing I have a little vacation time available, because I'm not going anywhere! Wish I had my Christmas shopping done...LOL!!

I remember when winter in Illinois used to be mainly cold and snow. I don't know what's happened, maybe global warming or… Continue

A Patch of Hope!

A lot of us are experiencing the effects of an economy gone nuts. People losing their homes, the cost of gas and food affecting us all. The price of grain, hay, dog food, cat food, etc. has also risen. It’s become harder to just to cover our basic survival costs, let alone keep and feed our furry friends. Yes, I’m worried about the future. About keeping my job, my truck, a roof over my head, insurance, and the ability to keep and feed my… Continue

WARNING…Internet Can Be Hazardous To Your Health…OR…Good friends don’t let you do stupid things…alone! Part 3

The End of the Beginning!

Gina tagged me to tell the story of how I came to own my half-arab pinto mare Tashaw – this is part 3 and the last (I promise!) chapter of the story.

Is this really happening? Are we really going to do this? I never purchased a horse through the internet before and never traveled very far to buy one either. It was already November and the weather could turn at any minute. Not to mention that we… Continue

Hey there Dixie!!
I asked my mum about the shaving of the tails in the andalusian its to enhance the shape of the rear when showing and also for ease of covering.

Hey Dixie, The shaving of the manes and tails is more of what the spainards do, although there are people over there that do it its not everyones cup of tea. I personally think our mares look better without their manes and the tops of their tails shaved. We do have one mare that has a full length mane and tail but its a lot of work and she was allowed to grow it because we are selling her and people over here who don't know the tradiitions of the spanish horse can think it doesn't look right.
The spanairds do it as it is easier for them, if you think some studs have over a 500 herd of just mares it is easier if they have them all hogged - even though they are not actually hogged they are shaped to emphasise the shape of the mares necks. I'm not actually sure why they shave the tops of the tails - i'll have to find one of the articles in the mags which tells you .... hmmm i'll get back to you on that one. So it is an awful lot easier for them to be hogged.
