Sounds like an interesting journey with all the twists and turns. The way you tell the story, I feel like I am present. Dodging the low branches and fallen trees. Great blog! :)

The Deep Dark Forest and why Bonnie is so beautiful and What Elk Have To Do With It Anyway.

A couple of weeks ago we had our "5 month old Bonnie," photo shoot with Annaliese Moyer the professional photographer from Portland Oregon. I knew by now (this was the third shoot to chronicle Bonnie's progress as she grew) that Annaliese was very good but she outdid herself and under somewhat difficult circumstances.

Right off it will help if you know that elk and deer figure prominently in Bonnie's life, and her mother's as well. The site for the barn we built for Altea before she foaled is r… Continue

Bonnie Explores The Deep Dark Forest

Bonnie Explores The Deep Dark Forest

Exploring the deep dark woods, with Momma and The Old Man.

Today Bonnie was particularly energetic when I took her and Altea out for Altea's circle work on the back meadow. More on Altea, who had a wonderful day too, later in her own Daily Training Diary.

Bonnie was squealing as she flew around through the woods beyond the little meadow, jumping her brush pile, doing huge gigantic sliding stops, with roll backs. Lots of dancing around mom Altea and… Continue

The Little Andalusian Mare

Altea's saga continues.

Recently mother to Bonalaria, (Bonny) a pretty and healthy filly (Feb 22nd), Altea's trip from her original home in Salmon Idaho, to her current home, built for her and her foal, through bad health with Insulin Resistance and special low carb diet, through a long recovery from laminitis Altea's story continues.

So what does the old man have in store for her?

Well, her IR condition demands not only special feeding but exercise, and the old man can walk about .75 mile be… Continue

Bonnie and family, foal handling.

Bonnie has an equine form of diaper rash. She apparently lacked enough of the right enzymes for digesting mom's milk properly and developed a burn around her butt. We've treated the problem with some probiotics (two) from the vet, which she learned quickly to like and sucked from the tubes.

Thus there was minimal restraint only for a few minutes at the first treatment.

As for her little butt burn, we treat it like diaper rash with A+D Zinc Oxide (is there a mother here that's not heard of tha… Continue

Bonnie - formal and informal portraits of a princess.

Day before yesterday Her Royal Cuteness the Princess Bonalaria appeared for her portrait session celebrating her third week of life. Attending were the Reduxes, Don and Kate. Bonnie was resplendent in her shiny fur coat.

These photos are protected by copyright, and I have the permission of the artist to display them.

I find it interesting how Portland Oregon's Annaliese, the artist that captured these images, draws out so much from the subject. Both the combination of wild abandon of carefree… Continue

Great to hear from you Donald. Loved the photos and hearing about all of you. How exciting to have students again. I would be in line for lessons if I was close enough. Especially if you would tell stories afterwards like the ones you wrote here. I truly hope you will find the time to write them all down. I am not kidding when I tell you how much I looked forward to reading your posts. I should get over to AND more often but seem to run out of time. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Say hello to Princess Bonnie and Altea and your lovely wife!

Glad to hear all if fine and Bonnie growing and "lavading" in true Princess fashion. What a joy to see her every day!

Hope all is well with you and your "girls" both horse and human. I miss hearing about Bonnie and Altea adventures and hope you are busy with the advent of Spring. We are waiting for the rains to subside and get into the garden. Horses are muddy and shedding and it takes and hour to get them ready to ride but such is Spring and an hour of grooming time and hanging out with our "kids" is time well spent. Take care Donald and post a note when you can. Miss ya!

Hi Donald,
I wanted to say thanks for the links to the translator link. I would also enjoy to converse with Volker about his horses and did not know how. I used the translator by Google and it was very simple. Just what I needed, Thanks!

Hi Donald

Busy times! beautiful foal!

I did join to check your baby out and see what you have been doing. I have been reading your dairy on the AND website.

My mare Blacky is bred from a long line of stationbreds bred for hunting and jumping. She has a deep grith area and a really strong hindend. What I know of the breed is that they originally came from mixed breeding and solid build to work and big stations for mustering etc. She has a 9 1/2 inch cannon bone.

PS I have a stupid last name - and is definetly not me lol

Hehe, you still have leaves on your trees. How wooly will they get? Isn't it funny how quickly a horse settles in? It would take us humans a long time to adjust. What kind of training are you doing with Butterscotch?
